Prostate Health Guide

June 18, 2009

Are you making frequent trips to the bathroom during the night?

This is just one of the common symptoms associated with BPH that affect a man’s lifestyle and the quality of your life. More than 30 million men suffer from prostate conditions that negatively affect their quality of life. But most men don’t know the prostate is or what it does.

We continue this week’s series of blog posts in recognition of Men’s Health Week with a great online resource prostate information.

Prostate Health Guide from Men’s Health Network is a great place to start.

At this website, users will learn about the symptoms and treatments for BPH, commonly known as an enlarged prostate, as well as tips on how to talk to doctors about prostate issues. Additionally there is information on the risk factors, treatment and prevention of Prostate cancer.

And did you know that the most common prostate problem for men under 50 is prostatitis, an inflammation of the prostate that may be caused by an infection. About half of adult men will be treated for it in their lifetime.

The Prostate Health Guide also includes a section devoted to educating women on how to recognize their partner’s symptoms of prostate enlargement.

The Appointment: Men’s Health Week

June 16, 2009

In our continuing series of blog postings about National Men’s Health Week, today we feature a video called The Appointment that highlights the importance of improved doctor-patient communications. A Spanish version titled “La Cita” is also available.

The goal of this tongue-in-cheek video is to improve doctor-patient relationships and healthcare outcomes. Many people have fears of going to the doctor. This video can help patients better understand how to work with their doctors, get the most out of each visit, and stay on track with future appointments.

The purpose of National Men’s Health Week is to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys. So pass this video along to help improve the doctor appointment experience.

The video is made available by HealthMedia in conjunction with Men’s Health Network.

Men’s Health Week – June 15-21, 2009

June 15, 2009

Men’s Health Week starts today and runs through June 21, 2009. We will be doing a series of blog posts this week dedicated to men’s health.

To mark Men’s Health Week, a report was published today showing men are almost 40 percent more likely than women to die from cancer, and they are 16 percent more likely to develop the disease in the first place. The study was done by the National Cancer Intelligence Network (NCIN) and Cancer Research UK together with the Men’s Health Forum.

The purpose of Men’s Health Week is to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys. This week gives health care providers, public policy makers, the media, and individuals an opportunity to encourage men and boys to seek regular medical advice and early treatment for disease and injury.
